Folded Language
Kochi-Muziris Biennale, India
Paintings created with cut-up contemporary Indian saris.
Folded Language embraces aspects of India’s trade, colonialism and commerce in which pattern migration is both exploited and celebrate; and environmentally synthetic materials replace traditional cottons and silks.
From a political perspective, pattern migration acts as a metaphor for economic worker migration as textile production centers continually shift in the world.
A site specific installation created for the Collateral Projects, Kochi-Muziris Biennale 2016. Folded Language premiered in the Collateral Project exhibition "Artist: The Public Intellectual" curated by Tanya Abraham, sponsored by Edgar Pinto, Kashi Art Gallery.
